Marvin Yu

Marvin Yu is a nationally ranked table tennis player and an experienced coach with over nine years of competitive playing experience and five years of coaching experience across all ages and skill levels. As a competitor, Marvin has achieved a peak USATT rating of 2180, placing him within the top 200 U22 male athletes nationwide, represented his collegiate team at the NCTTA national competitions, earning a 6th place team finish during the 2024-2025 championships as well as a divisional singles runner-up title, and placed 11th individually at the World University Games Team Selection Trials. As a coach, Marvin is known for his technical insights, individualized training plans, and ability to develop both fundamentals and advanced tactics. He has successfully guided recreational beginners, competitive juniors, and adult players seeking to elevate their games.

John McDermott

John McDermott is a nationally rated table tennis player and highly experienced coach with over a decade of competitive playing and coaching experience across all levels. He has achieved a peak USATT rating of 2354 and captained the 2020 UMass Amherst team to a Northeast Regional Championship. In addition to his technical expertise, John holds a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology and has served as the mental performance coach for junior national team members, integrating advanced mental training into his coaching approach. Known for his adaptable playing style—transitioning between aggressive serve-and-attack and disciplined receive-and-defend tactics—John delivers individualized training plans that emphasize technical precision, tactical awareness, and mental resilience. He has successfully guided beginners, competitive juniors, adult players, and elite prospects aiming to perform at the highest levels.
